How We Got There

Wendy came to my office looking for a solution to filling the gap from a congenitally missing tooth. Having experienced several unsatisfactory attempts, she wanted to know what the possibilities were. Following her smile aesthetic examination, I determined we could scientifically improve the smile by just treating the four front teeth. The first step of aesthetic care involved power whitening with Zoom! technology. This process takes 2 ½ hours in the office. This is one the most productive ways of removing stains and brightening up the smile. Following tooth whitening, the four front teeth were design to blend into the natural smile line. Non-metal technology was used to obtain the most natural aesthetic results.
Today’s ceramic technologies are getting closer to nature. The visual properties of how light refection and absorption responds to a tooth surface is one of the most important aspects in accomplishing a natural look with it comes to natural smile enhancement. Non-metal ceramic technology allows me to closely apply this principle, particularly with a bridge. Most bridges today in dentistry still are made with a metal core. This is to provide supportive strength. The aesthetic down side of a metal core is the masking process that must take place to mask out the dark metal core. As result, the light absorption and reflection process in the metal-ceramic is different. This creates a blending problem often leading to an unnatural finish.
In Wendy’s case I decided to lengthen the two front teeth so to align them with the rest of her smile plane. Veneers were designed for the right central and lateral, and a non-metal bridge, using the same ceramic as the veneers was designed to replace the missing tooth and veneer the right central. As you see with the before and after photos, Wendy’s dramatic smile makeover was accomplished by enhancing just four teeth.
